De Vooruit er blevet en af de kulturelle referencepunkter i Gent. Både teater, musikoptrædener og andre scenekunstformer kommer her til udtryk. Siden 1982 har Vooruit været et nutidigt kunstcenter. Caféen er mødestedet par excellence for de gentiske studerende og artister.
