Suche keinen Zusammenhang zwischen Zonnebeke und der Sonne; 1072 hieß das Dorf infatti Sinnebecche. Nach den verheerenden Bombardements des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde die Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk wieder aufgebaut und 1924 eingeweiht. Die Kirche, mit einem Dach aus Stahlbeton, wird als die erste moderne Kirche in diesem Land angesehen.
2004 wurde das Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 eröffnet, als Nachfolger des früheren Regionalmuseums. Als Besucher wirst du entlang der fünf Schlachten geführt, die um Ypern tobten. Neben einer umfangreichen Sammlung von Fotos sind auch historische Objekte ausgestellt und du kannst in einen britischen „Dug-out“ oder einen deutschen Graben hinabsteigen.
