Das Naturreservat Grand Courant erstreckt sich am rechten Ufer der Sambre, flussabwärts von Thuin. Es besteht aus ehemaligen Mähwiesen, die eine enge Aue am Fuß des Bois Jean Boinval einnehmen, in Höhe des Staudamms Grand Courant. Der teilweise bewaldete Standort umfasst ein Schilfrohr mit Uferbinse (Carex riparia), ein Schilfgebiet mit Gemeinem Schilfrohr (Phragmites australis), Nassstellen mit gegenständigen Blättern von Dorine (Chrysosplenium oppositifolium), ein mit Pappeln bepflanztes Megaphorbiengebiet sowie Gebüsche aus Weiden und Erlen. Die lokale Fauna ist aufgrund des schwierigen Zugangs schlecht bekannt. Eine bedeutende Population der Desmoulins Wurstschnecke (Vertigo moulinsiana), einer winzigen Schnecke, die durch die Natura 2000-Verordnung geschützt ist, wurde kürzlich dokumentiert, ebenso wie der Schilfkäfer (Anisosticta novemdecimpunctata) und andere interessante Käfer.
Öffentlicher Zugang: Der Standort ist schlecht zugänglich. Es gibt keinen begehbaren Weg und kein Informationsschild.
