Als Schwesterinstitution des Centre Pompidou in Paris ist das Centre Pompidou-Metz ein Meisterwerk der zeitgenössischen Architektur. Entworfen von Shigeru Ban und Jean de Gastines, mit Philip Gumuchdjian für den Entwurf des Siegerprojekts des Wettbewerbs, bietet es vier Ausstellungsgalerien, die von einem kühnen Dach, das an einen chinesischen Hut erinnert, überdacht sind. Die 77 Meter hohe Turmspitze ist eine Anspielung auf das Jahr 1977, in dem das Centre Pompidou-Paris eröffnet wurde. Das Centre Pompidou-Metz beherbergt im Rahmen seiner Wechselausstellungen das Beste der modernen und zeitgenössischen Kunst.
