Depart from Aarschot's train station towards the Orleanstoren, where you have a wonderful view of Aarschot and region. In the past, the people of Aarschot let their cattle graze outside the city walls. Several drift roads led to the moors. A number of local names still recall this. Also in the nature reserve 's Hertogenheide you can still find traces of it. The Eikelberg is a typical Hageland hill of ironstone, but the wooded nature reserve was once mainly heathland. In the Demervallei you walk along the Vorsdonkbos to the Demerdijk.
