El Hospital St. Josef de Essen-Werden es una institución de la Medicina Universitaria de Essen y un hospital docente académico de la Universidad de Duisburgo-Essen. Se encuentra en el centro del barrio Werden de Essen.

En la antigua ciudad-abbadía de Werden, la atención a los pobres y enfermos estaba en manos de monasterios y hospicios hasta mediados del siglo XIX. En 1854, la parroquia de San Ludgero tomó la iniciativa de establecer un hospital en Werden. Para ello, adquirieron la posada Ferber frente a las fábricas de tejidos. En 1857, el hospital católico en la calle Propsteistraße fue inaugurado y se inició la operación con cuatro hermanas religiosas. Las crecientes demandas hicieron necesarias ampliaciones y modernizaciones desde temprano. En 1915, el hospital contaba, tras una mayor construcción nueva, con 120 camas.
