Catherine de Bologne est la patronne de Bologne. Lorsque la reine Christine de Suède visita Bologne en 1655, Catherine n'était pas encore canonisée, mais son corps « incorruptible » dans la chapelle du Monastero del Corpus Christi attirait déjà de nombreux pèlerins. Christina est également allée voir le corps miraculeux dans le sanctuaire et a été « très impressionnée ».
