In Banneux verscheen Maria op zondag 15 januari 1933. Sindsdien hebben talloze mensen hoop, vrede en genezing gezocht in een dorp, dat langzamerhand is uitgegroeid tot een echte bedevaartplaats. Devote gezangen en gebeden stijgen tot ver boven de bomen en een kruisweg en talloze kapelletjes liggen verspreid tussen de dennenbossen.
