Die Universität Greifswald ist eine Universität mit Sitz in der Hansestadt Greifswald. Sie wurde im Jahr 1456 gegründet und gehört zu den ältesten Universitäten Mitteleuropas. Sie ist die viertälteste durchgängig bestehende Universität auf dem Gebiet der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und zugleich die zweitälteste im Ostseeraum; durch die wechselnde territoriale Zugehörigkeit Vorpommerns war sie zeitweilig auch die älteste Hochschule Schwedens und Preußens .
Aufgrund ihres breiten Fächerangebotes handelt es sich um eine Volluniversität. Etwa zwei Drittel der rund 10.400 Studenten kommen von außerhalb Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns zum Studium nach Greifswald, darunter auch viele Erasmus- und weitere Auslandsstudenten aus über 90 Ländern.
