The Chapel of the Holy Oak is a place of pilgrimage west of Oirschot in the valley of the Beerze, north of the Baest estate.
The legend was written down around 1610 by Petrus Vladeraccus, a Catholic zealot at the time.
Legend has it that 'two centuries before' a couple of shepherds found a statue of the Virgin Mary on the banks of the Beerze and placed it in an oak tree, after which they fell down in adoration. Residents of Middelbeers took the statue with them and placed it in their church, but the next morning the statue was back in its original place. The inhabitants of Oirschot now came to venerate the statue, and among the first visitors there were already several people who miraculously recovered from their fevers.
