Oirschot ) is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. Oirschot is located in the region Kempen.De name Oirschot is said to come from "schoot", which means higher lying land in swampy areas, and "oir", which can possibly be traced back to "aurochs" or "iron-bearing soil". But it could also be that "oir" denotes water, just like "spike". In that case, it is a high spot in or near a wet depression, which is still the case today, just less obvious than in the past. Oirschot therefore has the same significance as Aarschot in Flemish Brabant.
