Col de Glandon i 1.922 meters højde ligger mellem Belledonne og Arves bjergkæderne, tre kilometer vest for Col de la Croix-de-Fer. Det forbinder dalen Romanche med Maurienne-dalen. Col de Glandon tager sit navn fra en lokalitet i kommunen Saint-Colomban-des-Villards. Ved passet har en eponymisk bæk sin kilde. Oprindelsen af toponymen stammer meget sandsynligt fra et mandenavn. Ifølge en anden hypotese skulle det findes i den keltiske rod *glann-, "dal".
