Plochingen ist eine Kleinstadt im baden-württembergischen Landkreis Esslingen am Zufluss der Fils in den Neckar. Sie gehört zur Region Stuttgart und zur europäischen Metropolregion Stuttgart.
Plochingen ist etwa neun Kilometer ostsüdöstlich von der Kreisstadt Esslingen am Neckar entfernt und in derselben Richtung etwa 19 Kilometer von der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart. Die Kleinstadt liegt an den rechten Ufern von Fils und abfließendem Neckar, der hier an der Mündung des ersten seiner vier großen Nebenflüsse das charakteristische Plochinger Neckarknie zeigt, an dem er von langem Nordost- für eine kurze Strecke auf Westnordwestlauf wechselt.
