Sint-Truiden

Sint-Truiden is the largest municipality in Limburg in terms of area.

One of the sights is the town hall with belfry, the lower part of which dates from the 13th century, the rest dates from 1608. The halls (1366) form part of the ground floor of the town hall. The High Gothic Lievenvrouwenkerk with tower in neo-Gothic style and the former Benedictine abbey of Saint Trudo can also be visited.
The Beguinage of Saint Agnes, founded in 1258, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Another attraction is the Meridian line on the abbey square which, together with the column with the statue of Saint Trudo, forms an afternoon sun hand. A plaque refers to Truienaar Count de Theux de Meylandt who, as Minister of the Interior in 1836, decreed that meridian lines had to be built so that citizens could equate their clockwork at 12 o'clock Brussels time.
