Pebble forest

Geologically you will not find too many stones here in this region. And that is itself euphemistically stated. There are no natural stones to be found here. That is why my curiosity was aroused with the toponym "Steentjesbos". In itself, "stone" or "boulder" occurs in many Flemish toponyms, because this gives an indication of rocks that emerge in the subsurface. But you don't have that here. Where would that name come from? An information board at the edge of the forest gives the explanation:

"The Pebble Forest takes its name from the forest paths paved with remaining pieces of stone from a Gallo-Roman building complex"
