Camping area Tailles des Sart

This small area, situated in the forest, is 5 km (along the GR) south of the city of Chimay. It is one of the best and most popular camping spots in the network on La Grande Traversée de la Forêt du Pays de Chimay. You camp among the beech and oak trees on dry forest ground. There is a fire ring and an information board. Water can be found a few hundred meters from the campsite, along the GR route towards Seloignes, in a small stream, though not enough to dive into. Although you are surrounded by forest, you can occasionally hear the sound of passing cars in the distance, not to the extent that it is disturbing; the chirping of birds prevails.

The name Taille des Sarts refers to an old place name in the area; in fact, a 'sart' is a cleared area in the forest meant for livestock or agriculture. Near the campsite, you can also spot several beautiful historical border stones, which date back to 1712 and marked a boundary between Chimay and Forges.
