Jerez Plata Park - Jerez de la Frontera - Andalusia

This park is named after Juan Franco Martínez , known as Juan de la Plata , who was born in Jerez de la Frontera on May 1, 1932.

As a child, he hand-wrote volumes of poetry , short stories and plays, as well as children's magazines. He started publishing articles on flamenco and other cultural and informative topics in the Jerez newspaper “Ayer” . In the 1940s he founded the Peña Artística y del Folklore , origin of the Chair of Andalusian Flamenology and Folklore , which he founded in September 1958 along with Manuel Pérez Celdrán, Manuel Ríos Ruiz and Esteban Pino.

At the end of the 50's he broadcasts his program "Cante Jondo" on Radio Jerez . In the 1960s he made several flamenco programs for Radio Popular de Jerez , and from the appearance of Diario de Jerez in 1984 he devoted himself to flamenco criticism in that newspaper until his death.

The park was renovated in 2022; Sports fields, playgrounds and picnic areas are being built.
