Welcome to the municipality of Beek. Around 5,250 BC, the first farmers arrived in the Netherlands, more specifically in South Limburg. Archaeologists today find both the traces of those farms and all kinds of other finds, such as flint and pottery. They decorated many pottery with linear ornamental patterns. These decorations are so typical that they gave the name to this entire prehistoric culture: the Bandkeramiekers. In Beek, remains of the Band ceramics have been found in many places over the past century. Along the Keutelbeek were several Bandceramic villages. This walking route leads you past several places where archaeologists have found the remains of these villages. You can park at the Oude Pastorie in Beek.
