La halle du commerce du lin en attachement au beffroi du 15ème siècle. Seul le lin qui avait passé le contrôle de qualité pouvait y être vendu.
Au 18ème siècle, le bâtiment a été utilisé comme hôtel de ville. Pour cette raison, une entrée supplémentaire pour la prison et une maison pour le gardien ont été construites par l'architecte de la ville David t'Kindt de l'autre côté du beffroi.
À cette époque, la fonction originale de la halle du commerce du lin avait disparu.
