Walking along the peat poles in the Pannenhoef

This 6-kilometer long junction walking route leads through the nature reserve de Pannenhoef.

The path to junction 46 is closed and no longer visible. There is only one path between junction 98 and junction 8.

De Pannenhoef is a nature reserve of about 706 ha located between Zundert, Etten-Leur, and Rijsbergen in the province of North Brabant and is owned by the Stichting Brabants Landschap.

In the area, which largely consists of mixed forest, there are eleven ponds and some heath remnants with significant natural value.

Many birds breed here, including the green woodpecker and buzzard.

In this area, peat was extracted from the 14th to the 17th century.

While walking, you will pass several peat markers.

Peat markers are steel artworks that refer to the peat history.
Each small marker addresses a specific theme.
The large markers indicate the thickness of the extracted peat, and the markers also contain a beautiful poem.
