Com a conseqüència de l'extracció de grava, van sorgir estanys aquí i allà.
La intenció era omplir posteriorment les fosses amb les muntanyes de residus miners. Això va resultar ser una mala solució per la qualitat de les aigües subterrànies, entre altres coses. Els marges de les graveres es van adaptar amb la perspectiva d'esbarjo. El llac atreu una gran varietat d'ocells i la vegetació al voltant dels rierols és un lloc de cultiu per a diverses espècies. Està prohibit banyar-se a les aigües , excepte a la zona propera a la platja de Terland.
