La superficie de la commune, 6 079 hectares, est l'une des plus étendues du département de la Vienne, puisqu'elle se situe en dixième position. Elle s'étend du nord au sud sur près de 12 km et d'est en ouest sur 6 km.D’une manière générale, le temps est assez sec et chaud pendant l’été, moyennement pluvieux en automne et en hiver avec des froids peu rigoureux.
