Schwepnitz è un comune nella Lusazia occidentale, nel nord della Sassonia, a circa 12 chilometri a nord-ovest della città di Kamenz e a circa 35 chilometri a nord-est di Dresda. Si trova tra Königsbrück e Bernsdorf lungo il Wasserstrich. A ovest di Schwepnitz si trova la brughiera di Königsbrück con l'ex poligono di tiro di Königsbrück.
Il nome del luogo deriva dall'antico sorabo Svepeťnica, che si riferisce a un ruscello che scorre attraverso una foresta con alveari, e probabilmente ha origine dalla seconda fase di colonizzazione da parte degli slavi. Tuttavia, la prima attestazione scritta risale solo al 1343.
