The Rutbeek Enschede

The Rutbeek is a recreational area, southwest of Enschede, in the direction of the neighboring Buurserzand and the municipality of Haaksbergen. The area was created by means of a sand excavation. Construction started in 1975 and was completed in 1978.

The area, with a total area of approx. 120 ha, is located around a large recreational lake with whimsical shape and an area of forty hectares. On the Rutbeek you can go hiking, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, canoeing, fishing, diving, cable water skiing, kite flying, and barbecuing. The distance of a walk around the Rutbeek is four to five kilometers. The Rutbeek consists of a swamp and five different beaches, one of which is a nudist beach. Events regularly take place on the Rutbeek.
