L'estàtua es va inaugurar l'any 1926, any de la mort del professor, i està situada als terrenys de l'Institut a la plaça de Guillermo Rances.
Adolfo Cabrera Pinto va viure de 1855 a 1926. A la localitat de La Laguna, Tenerife, va ser nomenat director de l'Institut General i Tècnic de la Província de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on va realitzar una enorme tasca educativa durant més de vint anys.
Però sobretot, per Reial Decret de l'11 d'abril de 1913, aconseguí incloure la Universitat de La Laguna en el projecte d'organització administrativa de l'Arxipèlag. A més de professor, va ser un gran i destacat periodista, redactor d' El Populair i col·laborador de molts altres diaris.
