Aquest celler de gel es va utilitzar fins l'any 1935.
El celler de gel solia servir com a habitació fresca per emmagatzemar els aliments.
A l'hivern s'agafaven blocs de gel de l'estany i s'apilaven al soterrani. Durant l'estiu asseguraven una temperatura freda. Amb l'arribada de les neveres elèctriques, la gelera va perdre importància i es va quedar buida.
Els ratpenats necessiten una temperatura constant i lliure de gelades i una humitat elevada durant la hibernació, així com un descans adequat. Un celler de gel és una solució ideal per a això. Zedelgem va comprar el celler de gel l'any 1997. No és accessible.
