Sant Joan Despí és un municipi dins de la comarca del Baix Llobregat, situat al pla del Llobregat, a l'esquerra del riu. El municipi confronta amb els de Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, Esplugues de Llobregat, Cornellà de Llobregat, Sant Boi i Santa Coloma de Cervelló.
L'extensió del municipi és de 6,39 km² i el cens de població consta de 34.123 habitants el 2019. Sant Joan Despí consta de quatre barris ben diferenciats: el barri Centre , el barri de les Planes , el barri de Pla del Vent – Torreblanca i el barri Residencial Sant Joan .
