El terme, de 45,60 km² i pràcticament pla, se situa a la vall dels Alcalans i es troba solcat pel riu Magre, d'escàs cabal però fortes avingudes, el riu Sec, o barranc de Montortal i la rambla de la Parra. El nucli urbà de Carlet es troba emplaçat a la banda dreta del Magre, mentre que a l'esquerra hi ha una zona industrial.
