Un call, provinent de l’hebreu kahal , és el nom per a anomenar un barri jueu als Països Catalans. El call de Girona es pot comptar entre els calls més importants no només dels Països Catalans, sinó també de la Peninsula Ibérica i va arribar a tenir uns 800 habitants. Entre els habitants més il·lustres destaquen pensadors, poetes i filòsofs amb Mosse ben Nahman , també conegut com Bonastruc ça Porta , metge i filòsof, com a figura més emblemàtica del call medieval.
