El primitiu monestir i l'església de Sant Agustí, que apareix al mapa de Torriani des de 1588 , es van construir prop de l'antiga llacuna per garantir el subministrament d'aigua.
L'església, la torre i l'entrada es van construir al seu emplaçament actual al segle XVIII.
L' incendi del 2 de juny de 1964 va destruir l'església i amb ell un patrimoni històric-artístic de primer nivell: estàtues com les del grup que van formar la Mare de Déu de la Cinta, Sant Agustí i Santa Mónica, o el Crist de Burgos.
