Vilafranca de Conflent és una vila i comuna nord-catalana de la comarca del Conflent. Forma part del cantó dels Pirineus catalans , amb capitalitat a Prada. El sobrenom dels vilafranquins és bistorns . Anava adreçat als galonats de carrera de l'exèrcit francès.El nom de la vila és un topònim romànic medieval, de caràcter descriptiu: fou vila franca a causa dels beneficis i privilegis concedits pel rei als seus habitants en la seva fundació, i és geogràficament el centre de la comarca del Conflent.
