El castell de Windsor és la residència habitada de manera ininterrompuda més antiga del món. Junt amb el palau de Buckingham a Londres i el palau de Holyrood a Edimburg és una de les residències principals de la reina Elisabet II del Regne Unit. El castell es troba a la ribera del riu Tàmesi, a la localitat del mateix nom que el castell, Windsor.
La reina utilitza el castell com a residència de caps de setmana i com a emplaçament de recepció de caps d'estat. El castell data de l'època de Guillem I d'Anglaterra, dit el Conqueridor, havent exercit la majoria de reis i reines del país una influència directa sobre l'evolució arquitectònica del castell. El castell esdevé una mostra insuperable de la trajectòria històrica del Regne Unit; en temps de pau s'afegien al castell noves estances i en temps de guerra el castell es fortificava.
