Asop era el nom d'un riu de Beòcia i del nord de l'Àtica que naixia a les muntanyes de Citeró prop de Platea. A l'antiguitat formava el límit entre Platea i Tebes. La batalla de Platea es va lliurar a la seva riba. Segons Pausànies, el riu produeix unes canyes més altes que les de qualsevol altre riu. La seva font, a la vessant nord de les muntanyes de Citeró, se situa al sud-oest de Tebes, i desaigua al golf d'Eubea, prop d'Oropos. És el modern Asopo.
