L'Estat Lliure de Fiume fou una ciutat-estat existent entre 1920 i 1924 que incloïa la ciutat homònima . La seva extensió territorial era de 28 km2 i incloïa Fiume i les àrees rurals del nord i amb un petit corredor que la connectava amb Itàlia. L'Estat Lliure limitava amb els municipis aleshores italians però ara croates de Castua , Gellegne , Viscovo Čavle i la localitat de Mattuglie .
Originàriament integrada dins l'Hongria habsbúrgica, la ciutat fou un centre de disputa diplomàtica entre el Regne d'Itàlia i el nounat Regne dels Serbis, Croates i Eslovens un cop acabada la Primera Guerra Mundial. L'Estat es formà a partir de la preexistent Regència Italiana del Carnaro
