Tirano és un municipi italià, situat a la regió de Llombardia i a la província de Sondrio. L'any 2009 tenia 9.168 habitants. Limita amb els municipis de Brusio , Corteno Golgi , Sernio, Vervio i Villa di Tirano. Al seu terme hi ha una de les estacions del Ferrocarril Rètic.
Està situat a la frontera amb Suïssa, a una altitud de 450 msnm i envoltat de muntanyes: al sud els Alps Orobie valtellinesos, al nord el Massís de la Bernina i al nord-est el del Stelvio. Les localitats es troben a la rodalia a la confluència de les dues branques del riu Adda.
