Es va instal·lar a Largo Ciro Menotti perquè estava a prop del seu lloc de naixement. Llàstima que la investigació històrica durant anys hagi demostrat que Galileo Galilei no va néixer a Borgo Stretto. L'estàtua dedicada al pare de la ciència moderna desperta així una falsedat històrica; enganya els turistes que passen per sota de la casa de Bocca on una placa, col·locada erròniament però mai retirada, marca el lloc de naixement del científic; crea més confusió, ja que es col·loca una altra placa a la casa d'Ammannati a Via Giusti, un edifici identificat en documents històrics com el veritable lloc de naixement de Galileu.
