L'església, juntament amb el monestir , va ser construïda l'any 1344 per Matteo Sclafani al lloc de l'antic palau de Matteo Termini, venjador de Sicília i oncle de Sclafani.
L'església fou totalment reformada l'any 1678 , té una planta rectangular amb altars laterals, un santuari quadrangular, sobre el qual s'aixeca una curta cúpula, i un absis semicircular.
L' interior elegant està decorat amb revestiment de marbre, barrejat amb estucs, frescos interessants i l'altar major està decorat amb marbre i pedres semiprecioses.
Destaca el llenç que Olivio Sozzi va pintar l'any 1735 amb la imatge “S. Chiara porta el sagrament a la mà" i el sagrament que Gaspare Serenario va crear amb la "Crucifixió" . L'arc de triomf conserva els frescos d'Antonio Grano amb l'"Apoteosi de la Trinitat". Penjats al presbiteri, entre la festiva i extensa seqüència de marbres. i figures, dos grans quadres, executats per Guglielmo Borremans amb històries sobre Sant Francesc i Santa Clara.
El complex conté un centre social per a l'acollida de treballadors no comunitaris .
