La Praça D. João II va ser remodelada en 2001.
Mostra als visitants diverses celebracions dels Descobriments Portuguesos , com els patrons de les “cinc parts del món”, el Llac de les Sirenes , diverses fonts esfèriques i, sobretot, un gran rellotge de sol .
El nom de la plaça fa referència al rei que va ordenar construir la propera duana.
Criden l'atenció les nombroses fonts esfèriques que brollen del terra, així com un modern monument de metall envoltat d'un llac on s'alça una estàtua d'una sirena . A dalt de la plaça hi ha la Capella del Socors i el mirador.
