Fins i tot l'estàtua de Sant Marc, segons l'ordre tradicional, el representa amb un llibre a la mà esquerra.
Al costat d'ell ia prop de la font trobem un lleó, símbol d'aquest evangelista, símbol de força, saviesa i justícia. Sota l'estàtua de Sant Marc es troba la inscripció en llatí: <<SICUT SCRIPTUM EST IN ISAIA PROPHETA... VOX CLAMANTIS IN DESERTO», traduïda com <<com està escrit al profeta Isaïes. Una veu que clama al desert >>.
A la part posterior del pedestal d'aquesta estàtua de Sant Marc hi ha una inscripció que commemora la meritòria tasca d'un dels benefactors més grans del santuari: <<ANY 1767 SENT ASSISTENT I BENEFICIARI MANUEL REBELO DA COSTA» . La construcció d'aquest lloc fou possible gràcies a la benvolença d'aquest germà.
