Schrattenberg ligger i Vinlandet i Niederøsterrike. Arealet af kommunen dækker 19,14 kvadratkilometer. 9,98 procent af arealet er skovklædt. Lige ved grænsen til Tjekkiet ligger der en grænseovergang, som dog kun kan anvendes af personbiler.
Stedet blev første gang nævnt skriftligt i 1184. Funde fra bronzealderen viser imidlertid, at stedets historie allerede begyndte meget tidligere.
