Mauterndorf er en købstad i Tamsweg-distriktet i den østerrigske delstat Salzburg. Kommunen omfatter også katastralgeminderne Faningberg, Neuseß og Steindorf.
Den ligger i centrum af Salzburg Lungau-regionen, i dalen ved den sydlige Taurach-flod, en biflod til Mur, der har sit udspring ved Radstädter Tauern-passet. I nord danner Niedere Tauern-kæden en del af Alpernes hovedkæde. I syd fører Katschbergvejen via Sankt Michael til Tauern Autobahn og Katschberg-passet, der krydser Hohe Tauern-kæden mod Karnten.
