Merksem er et distrikt i den belgiske by Antwerpen. Merksem var indtil 1. januar 1983 en selvstændig kommune. Toponymet Merksem består af to dele, nemlig "merk" og "heem". Man formoder, at navnet også henviser til en frankisk grænsebosættelse, der tilhørte bispedømmet Kamerijk. Den modstående bosættelse ville så have været Ekeren, som tilhørte bispedømmet Liège.
