Du står foran skulpturen af "Ploquettehandleren".
Den er lavet af Louis-Pierre Wagelmans, skulptør og professor ved Verviers Kunstakademi. Han ønskede at gøre denne populære figur lige så virkelig som i hans minder, nemlig en munter og meget elegant mand med sin lange frakke, sin bowlerhat og sin karakteristiske moustache.
I tiden for uldindustrien var ploquettehandleren en repræsentant for ulden. Han tilbragte sine dage med at vandre rundt i Verviers' gader for at præsentere sine uldprøver fra den ene tekstilfabrik til den anden. Hans prøver var rullet ind i papir cylindre.
I den anden halvdel af det 20. århundrede var der stadig næsten 200 af disse handlere i byen.
Statue, der står foran dig, er tre meter høj og er lavet af bronze.
