Ofte mest står disse slagdamme tørre, og køerne forkæler sig med det saftige, grønne græs på de våde bunde af dammen. Dammene blev tidligere brugt til at opsamle vand for at forsyne Slagdammøllen med den nødvendige energi. Man kan se det som en slags batteri. Men ikke af elektrisk energi, men af potentiel energi. Når vandet strømmer fra disse slagdamme, omdannes den potentielle energi til kinetisk energi. Så er den skolæres viden om fysik blevet lidt poleret igen.
