Lavertezzo nævnes første gang i 1327 som Laverteze. I middelalderen var Lavertezzo en Squadra i Vicinanza af Verzasca. I århundreder levede folkene, om sommeren, i Verzasca-dalen og migrerede om vinteren, med deres kvæg, til de lavere dale. Efter opløsningen af Terricciole i 1920, et fælles område mellem Locarno, Minusio og Mergoscia, blev bosættelsen Riazzino tildelt Lavertezzo.
Sognekirken Madonna degli Angeli blev bygget i det 18. århundrede. Lavertezzo blev et uafhængigt sogn i det 16. århundrede, da det adskilte sig fra Vogorno. Det fik en provst i 1806.
