Kanton Aargau; nogle gange latinizés som Argovia; se også andre navne) er en af de mere nordlige kantoner i Schweiz. Den ligger ved Aare-flodens nedre løb, hvilket er grunden til, at kantonen kaldes Aar-gau. Det er en af de mest tætbefolkede regioner i Schweiz.
Området Aargau og de omkringliggende områder blev kontrolleret af helvetierne, et medlem af kelterne, så tidligt som 200 f.Kr. Det blev til sidst besat af romerne og derefter af frankerne i det 6. århundrede. Romerne byggede en væsentlig bosættelse kaldet Vindonissa, nær den nuværende beliggenhed af Brugg.
