For første gang blev kommunen kaldt Frickenhusen i det tidlige 14. århundrede. Den primære indtægtskilde var dyrkningen af vin. Epidemier, krig og dårlige høstår gjorde indkomsten ustabil, så mange mennesker arbejdede fra midten af det 18. århundrede med hørvævning, spinding og hør.
Siden reformationen er Frickenhausen overvejende protestantisk. I dag er der en protestantisk kirke i hver af de tre kommunale dele. I centrum er der også en romersk-katolsk kirke, og siden flere år har der været en ny apostolsk menighed.
