Pirna er en stor kommune og administrationssæde for Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge samt forvaltningsfællesskabet Pirna i fristaten Sachsen.
Pirna ligger ved den øverste begyndelse af Elbtaludvidelsen, hvor Wesenitz fra nord og Gottleuba fra syd munder ud i Elben. Det ligger ved den skollentektoniske grænse mellem Erzgebirge og Westsudeterne, som udvides mod vest til riftsænkningen af Elbtalbassinet.
