Omkring 950 blev Oberhof Halvara første gang nævnt i Werdener Probsteiregister. I mere end 500 år var Halver sæde for en Fehmisk domstol, hvis tidligste klare bevis findes i 1243; den ophørte med at eksistere i 1753. Denne domstol var mest berømt på grund af retssagen mod hertug Henry XVI den Rige af Bayern-Landshut og ridderen af Toerring den 2. maj 1430.
