Heitersheim ligger i dalen af den sydlige Oberrhein, indlejret mellem Rheinebene i vest og det kuperede land, som videre mod øst går over i Schwarzwald. Et markant bjerg i øst for byen er den 1414 m høje Belchen. Heitersheim ligger i overgangen fra Breisgau i nord og Markgräflerland i syd. Der er cirka 40 kilometer til Basel i syd og 25 kilometer til Freiburg i nord.
